Your favourite song lyrics, line, verse or chorus
With Peter Sarstadt passing away who created some great verses "Where do you go to my Lovely" it got me thinking about other great lines in songs.

George Michael from Fast Love:
"Stupid Cupid keeps calling on me,
but I see nothing in his eyes"

Squeeze and "Up the Junction"
"The devil came and took me from bar to street to bookie"

What are some of the other great lines out there for other WHO'ers?

I search for love before
For a love that I thought I couldn't find
I searched day in and day out
For a love that was mine all mine
I played around with love before
I was silly and you know that I played the fool
But then you came and took my life and you changed it
Cause I know what I want and where it's at Yeah
I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with you
I found lovin'
Since I found you
I'm in love with you
I found lovin'
My sun rises on your face
When I see that certain glow
But picture that's so bright
You're my delight
And that's why I love you so
I've played around with love before
I was silly and you know that I played the fool
But then you came and took my life and you changed it
Cause I know what I want and where it's at, with you
I found

Saw them live 4 times back in the 90's, including at the delightful Hollywoods in Romford.

Favourite was in Tower Records where people were actually stage diving off of the CD racks.

So I never tried."

Mr Reznor, almost every line from your namesake's most famous choon could get in this list.

Give him a ball and a yard of grass
He'll give you a move with a perfect pass
Give him a ball and a yard of space
He'll give you a move with godly grace

He's a nice young man with a lovely smile

A man can't have no greater love than to give 90minutes to his friends

If God meant game to be played up there
He would've put goalposts up in the air (×2)

If God meant game to be played up high
He would've put pitches in the sky. (×2)

Fair Call, my taste is very middle of the road.

Been very educational reading some of the lyrics on here.

Therefore we, before him bending,
This great Sacrament revere;
Types and shadows have their ending,
For the newer rite is here;
Faith, our outward sense befriending,
Makes the inward vision clear.

Glory let us give, and blessing
To the Father and the Son;
Honour, might, and praise addressing,
While eternal ages run;
Ever too his love confessing,
Who, from both, with both is one.
Amen.

Re: Your favourite song lyrics, line, verse or chorus

Brown paper bag, don't stop me now,
I'm on a roll.
Plain brown wrapper in your pocket.
Is it still the invisible man you're consorting with,
Woman?

Now that you got it all...wrong...
You got it all...Backwards Girl.
Enter through the exit and exist through the entrance
When you can.
Seen you consort with your invisible manhole.

Fool child, you're never gonna make it.
New York City just wants to see you naked
(And they will).
Though they'd never say so.
Wise, old, black and dead in the snow:
My southern sister...

"Sister, Sister" was the name of the band.
Flesh and blood, my death close at hand! Sister,
This is not about me and it's not about you, I swear!
No hard feelings, nothing personal, soft sculpture rides the air,
For free...

Words words words...
Longings longings longings...
All in vain...
Just ask Vanity, abandoned out in the rain
By the world, another proud American...

And as proud Americans, we let it slide...away...
Harmless little Negress,
You got to say yes
To another excess...
Let's go for a ride today...

In possession of eyes, that's it...
In possession of eyes, that's it...
A southern bunkhouse, blue skies up above,
A kindly figure of feminine grace and wit passes for love,
These days...

All that slender-wristed white translucent business
Passes for love, these days...
Mushhead genius
Passes for love, these days...

Four more years... Four more years...
Four hundred more years of this shit
(Fuck it)!
I look up I see the North Star, I look up I see the North Star
When I look up at the bar through these tears...

Four white pillars, Yankee-style...
All of America loves to lights his pipes...
All of America live to light his pipe at night...
To which Dixie responds - "Freeeee...

Me..."
And unlashes his sashes...
Again...

Maybe or maybe not ("fast forward" she said)...
Maybe once the seed is sown ("fast forward" she said)...
"This bird has flown south," she said.
"Don't talk about the south," she said.
It's not you, it's nothing personal,
No hard feelings, nothing's there...
Soft sculpture rides hard on the air...

Now that you got it all...wrong...
You got it all...backwards girl...
Enter through the exit and exit through the entrance...

When you can...

Re: Your favourite song lyrics, line, verse or chorus
Still my favourite track and lyrics 36 years later!!!

Walked in the cold air
Freezing breath on a window pane
Lying and waiting
A man in the dark in a picture frame
So mystic and soulful
A voice reaching out in a piercing cry
It stays with you until

The feeling has gone only you and I
It means nothing to me
This means nothing to me
Oh, Vienna

The music is weaving
Haunting notes, pizzicato strings
The rhythm is calling
Alone in the night as the daylight brings
A cool empty silence
The warmth of your hand and a cold grey sky
It fades to the distance

The image has gone only you and I
It means nothing to me
This means nothing to me
Oh, Vienna

Re: Your favourite song lyrics, line, verse or chorus
My old man wore three piece whistles
He was never home for long
Drove a bus for London Transport
He knew where he belonged
Number 18 down to Euston
Double decker move along
Double decker move along
My old man

Later on he drove a Roller
Chauffeuring for foreign men
Dropped his aitches on occasion
Said "Cor Blimey!" now and then
Did the crossword in the Standard
At the airport in the rain
At the airport in the rain
My old man

Wouldn't never let his guv'nors
Call him 'Billy', he was proud
Personal reasons make a difference
His last boss was allowed
Perhaps he had to keep his distance
Made a racket when he rowed
Made a racker when he rowed
My old man
My old man

My old man was fairly handsome
He smoked too many cigs
Lived in one room in Victoria
He was tidy in his digs
Had to have an operation
When his ulcer got too big
When his ulcer got too big
My old man

Seven years went out the window
We met as one to one
Died before we'd done much talking
But relations had begun
All the while we thought about each other
All the best mate from your son
All the best mate from your son
My old man
My old man

She gave a little flirt, gave herself a little cuddle
But there's no place here for the mini-skirt waddle

Re: Your favourite song lyrics, line, verse or chorus
Over bridge of sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under dreaming spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been
I got high
(What did you feel there?) well, I cried
(But why the tears there?) tell you why
It's all too beautiful, it's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful, it's all too beautiful
I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun
I'll tell you what I'll do (what will you do?) I'd like to go there now with you
You can miss out school (won't that be cool?) why go to learn the words of fools?
we'll get high
(What will we touch there?) we'll touch the sky
(But why the tears there?) I'll tell you why
It's all too beautiful, it's all too beautiful
It's all…

F.E.A.R - Ian Brown

For each a road
For everyman a religion
Find everybody and rule
For everything and rumble
Forget everything and remember
For everything a reason
Forgive everybody and remember

For each a road
For everyman a religion
Face everybody and rule
For everything and rumble
Forget everything and remember
For everything a reason

You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
F.E.A.R.
F.E.A.R.
F.E.A.R.
F.E.A.R.

Final eternity arouses reactions
Freeing excellence affects reality
Fallen empires are ruling
Find earth and reap

Fantastic expectations
Amazing revelations
Final execution and resurrection
Free expression as revolution
Finding everything and realizing

You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear

There is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
